1: How do I apply for the Casual Education Assistant/Office,Clerical,Library/Caretaker/ Occasional Teacher Lists?
Send your application including a cover letter, resume and three references to Heather Semeniuk, Human Resources Officer, 79 Casimir Avenue, Dryden, Ontario  P8N 2Z6.  Depending upon need, arrangements will be made for an interview to occur with two local area Principals (or the local Area Supervisor for the Casual Caretaking List).

2: How does the Board recruit for available positions?

All unionized positions are posted internally with a deadline for receipt of applications from members of the respective union.

When recruiting externally, positions may be advertised in various newspapers, the Board’s website and on the jobs in education website (jobsineducation.com).  Applications are then generally directed to either the Human Resources Department or the Principal/Supervisor at the work location where the position is open.


3: Can I send my application by Fax or e-mail?
Yes.   Faxed applications are accepted.  E-mailed applications should be sent in Word format only.

4: Do you have a listing of all Schools with Principals for contact information?

5: Does the Board employ Summer Students?
Yes.  The Board employs students in maintenance as well as information systems and other departments depending upon need.  Anticipated positions will be advertised in local area newspapers and on the Board website.  Students may apply for positions beginning in February of each year and their application will be kept on file for consideration for summer positions.

6: How Do I Obtain and Maintain Ontario Teacher Qualifications?

Ontario Teachers must be registered members of the Ontario College of Teachers which is the governing body for Ontario Teacher Qualifications.

7: How are Teaching credentials rated for placement on the Grid?

One you have obtained your Ontario College of Teachers certificate of Qualifications, you may apply to either the Qualifications Evaluation Council of Ontario (Q.E.C.O.) for Elementary Teachers or the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (O.S.S.T.F.) for Secondary Teachers.

Applications for first evaluation or re-evaluation may be obtained from either organization’s website, from the Human Resources Office or directly from either organization.

8: Is there a minimum education requirement for employment for the Board?
Yes.  A minimum of Grade 12 is required for all positions with the exception of student positions.

9: What courses are recognized as “Qualified” for the position of Education Assistant?
Courses in the Human Services field of study are those generally recognized as qualified.  Such courses must be taken at an Accredited College or University (Private Colleges are not recognized).  These include: Diploma in Teacher Aide Program, Child Care Worker Program, Developmental Services Worker Program, Children’s Services Program, Early Childhood Education Program, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Teacher Aide/Special Education Assistant or a Teachers’ Certificate.

10: If I am employed as a casual employee do I have rights to bid to Union positions?
Not in all cases.  In fact, the only casual employees who are governed by a union are those in the Caretaking and Maintenance area, therefore these employees would have rights to bid to internally posted CUPE positions (i.e. within their own bargaining unit).  All other casual employees are employed as non union employees in accordance with the Employment Standards Act and do not have seniority rights that would apply to internally posted positions.

11: If I am already employed as a casual employee, do I have to re-apply to the casual list from school year to school year?
No.  Casual Education Assistants, Office, Clerical and Library employees are kept on the list from school year to school year unless they request to have their name removed or they do not work for a period of approximately one year.

12: Why do I have to have a Criminal Background Check done to work for the Board?
Effective January 1 2002, Regulation , 521/01 of the Safe Schools Act came into effect.  This Regulation requires that all current employees and service providers who come into direct contact with students on a regular basis provide the Board with a Canadian Police Information (CPIC) computer check

13: Does the Board have a standard application form?
The Board does not have a standard application form.  Applications are accepted in the form of a cover letter and resume with 3 professional references for contact as well as any relevant supporting documentation i.e. practice teaching reports, copies of relevant diplomas/degrees/certificates.
