Communication Shared on January 14, 2025
To all KPDSB Families,
We wanted to share an important update with all KPDSB staff and families about the December 22 - 28, 2024, cyber incident involving PowerSchool – the application used by the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) and many school boards worldwide to store a range of student information.
As we told you last week, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool notified the KPDSB that they had experienced a data breach.
While our investigation into the data breach continues, we have now learned that it could potentially impact data belonging to KPDSB students, their families and our staff going back to 2015.
We have created a page on our website with Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to provide staff and families with as much information as possible regarding the data breach. We will update the FAQ as new information becomes available. It is important that staff and families review the information in the FAQs as they include information about the data breach, who is affected, what data may be impacted, etc.
Staff and families are reminded to be vigilant following the data breach. Practices such as regularly checking your email and online/social media accounts, updating passwords, and using strong, unique passwords can help to keep your accounts and information secure. Be cautious of unfamiliar emails, calls, or messages that claim to be from legitimate organizations. Never click on suspicious links or share personal information without verifying the source.
We know this news may be concerning, but please know that we are doing everything possible to learn more from PowerSchool about what occurred. We will continue to share updates and update the FAQ as more information becomes available.
Should you have any questions specific to this notification, please email us at cybersupport@kpdsb.ca.
Respectfully,
Christy Radbourne

To all KPDSB Families,
We wanted to share an important update about a cyber incident involving PowerSchool – the application used by the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board (KPDSB) and many school boards across North America to store a range of student information.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool notified the KPDSB and other school boards in Ontario and across North America that they had experienced a data breach between December 22 - 28, 2024. Our cybersecurity team promptly activated our response plan, taking immediate steps to ensure that our systems remain operational.
Working with PowerSchool, we are conducting a thorough investigation to understand the nature of the incident and what personal information may have been affected. At this point in time, we are still assessing the exact information that may have been accessed or exported from the application. PowerSchool has informed us that it has received confirmation that the data accessed by an unauthorized user has been deleted and that no copies of this data were posted online.
At this time, there is no action for you to take. If it is determined that any personal information has been impacted, we will let you know as soon as possible. We know this news may be concerning, but please know that we are doing everything possible to learn more from PowerSchool about what occurred and will share that information with you.
We will continue to update families as more information becomes available. Should you have any questions specific to this notification, please email us at cybersupport@kpdsb.ca.
Thank you,
Christy Radbourne
